Citation analysis

Bibliometrics focuses on citation analysis.  Citation data can be located using citation databases. These databases allow you to track the progress of your own citations by:

  • identifying who is citing your work
  • listing the number of citations to your works, also known as citation count
  • providing other impact measures of your impact such as h-Index

As well as finding measures of your own and others’ citation impact, you can use these databases to identify high impact journals and academic institutions in your area of research.

 Best Practice Tip

No one single citation database covers the entirety of a research discipline. So it’s advisable to use more than one when doing citation analysis.
