Nanoplas solar cells
The Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence Nanophotonics (LAIN) is the lead member of the Science and Industry Endowment Fund (SIEF) project.
The solar research focuses on the development of Nanoplas technology that can be applied to solar cells to manipulate and control light. This improves the efficiency of solar cells by increasing the wavelength range of the absorbed light and improving the conversion of photons into electrons.
The NanoPlas technology addresses the biggest challenge of thin film solar cells: the cost-effectiveness.
This makes building integratable solar cells a more viable technology for the building sector, which is an attractive concept for the building industry because it potentially allows skyscrapers to self-power themselves with purely green solar energy.
