Angelica Mimi Germano – Post #03

I have now reached the conclusion of both placements at Carringbush Adult Education and my time writing for Am-unity magazine. To conclude my time at Carringbush orgnaisation my last component and task involved researching app development. I had to research what the process of designing a non-profit low literacy app will consist of. I also had to take into account that Carringbush is limited with funding, and also will not be able to generate any revenue towards the app as they are creating it for free. Therefore, I researched and compared existing non-profit apps. I managed to find both low cost, and free options in designing a non –profit app. I also managed to find key features of these apps that allow the app to circulate and reach more members of marginalised groups. Overall it was a very interesting experience as I have never worked with app development. This not only contributed to the needs of Carringbush organisation but also allowed me to expand on my skillset by exploring an unfamiliar area. I have now submitted my article for Am-unity magazine. If there is one main thing that I want people to take away from the article is that regardless of the circumstances based around homelessness, and whether a person is drug, alcohol affected or has a mental illness: every human being has human rights; these rights are inalienable automatically awarded at birth. These rights cannot be lost or taken away. Regardless of race, gender, socioeconomic class, they must be withheld as in accordance with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.. “Every person has the right to an adequate standard of living, which includes the right to adequate housing Article 25.”  (Commission, 1991). I also hope that society can shift its perspective as stereotypes can only lead to harm and dehumanisation of these individuals. Both internships have allowed me to measure my output by continued feedback, and also shifted my perspective as I came face to face with the reality of homelessness, and marginalisation. Both experiences allowed me to facilitate change by developing a sociological sense of myself, and analysing behavioural change in individuals. (Nadarajah, 2007).
