Amjad Ali Nangialy – Post #03

My journey of the international development began when I started working with different diplomatic missions back home.  One of the major sections of the diplomatic missions especially in the development countries is the aid section, through which they implement different development projects through local implementing partners, which include the host government, international NGOs and civil society.

I was lucky enough to be some how part if these projects wether it’s was at design stage, or implementation or sometime at negotiation level with the government. I have learned a lot while working in the field but still I always felt that I should obtain the theoretical knowledge of the work we are doing. Therefore I decide to pursue my studies in the field of development.

Through this program I have gain some great skills and knowledge, which certainly added to my existing field experience. I have taught more in details about the design, and planning of the project and how to implement and mange these projects. I feel that my prospective of designing the project is totally change and now I am more inclined towards incorporating the participatory approaches instead of desk based design.

When I started looking for my IDRP, honestly speaking I struggled a lot to find a placement and in the beginning I have contacted all major NGOs in Melbourne but unfortunately they were not able to take me in their organizations.  I want it to do something along the lines of refuges and education, but finally I was able to start volunteering as education adviser with Asylum Seeker Resource Centre. Asylum Seeker Resource Centre is and NGOs working closely with people seeking asylum and providing them assistance in every aspect of life possible, including education, health, shelter, and food. ASRC is mainly volunteer run organization with some paid staff members. ASRC is not receiving any federal funding and mainly rely on the donations and charities provided by the people.
