Canvas: Course Coordinators & Course Owners

Training Session Overview:

This two-hour training session is an introduction to the new learning management system, Canvas, at RMIT University. It will provide course coordinators and course owners with the opportunity to build a course in Canvas and develop a consistent and accessible online experience for our students.

The session is part of implementing the Learning and Teaching Framework and supports developing knowledge and skills in delivering education in an online environment.

The aim of this session is to introduce course coordinators and course owners to the fundamentals needed to build a Canvas course, equipping them with the knowledge and skills required to meet the minimum standards of course delivery in Canvas at RMIT. This training session covers:

  • Basic course development using Canvas essential functionality and navigation
  • Developing assignments for practical teaching
  • Using communication tools to create meaningful dialogue with students
  • Implementing a narrative for your course content

Learning Outcomes:

After attending training, you will be able to:

  • Develop skills in Canvas by building your courses in Canvas
  • Utilise the affordances offered in Canvas for your course delivery
  • Achieved a step-by-step process for addressing the threshold standards
  • Contribute to the implementation of RMIT’s learning and teaching framework

Who should attend?

This training session is only available to staff who are responsible for developing a course. This includes any course coordinators or course owners in Higher Education and Vocational Education. You can only join these sessions once you receive an email informing you that your course is ready and also inviting you to come to this session and begin work on readying your course.

DSC – DIY Video Workshop

Have welcome videos to create?

The DSC Digital Learning Team are running workshops for teaching staff to learn more about recording their own videos. You can use a multitude of recording devices to create your masterpiece, from the webcam in your computer to the mobile phone in your pocket.

Some of you who went to a DSC video workshop earlier this year may remember Jennifer Farrow, who will be running these sessions again to help you prepare for Semester 2.

What will you get out of the workshop?

We will provide you with tips and tricks for recording your videos with ease, on your own recording device.

In this 1.5 hour workshop you will learn the basics of recording on a smartphone and webcam, develop a simple welcome video script and record your videos.
