Beyond its traditional understanding as a narrative tool, animation has a rich experimental dimension. Here practitioners consider the frame as a material moment curated and choreographed within the broader fabric of movement and time. In this course you will be encouraged to consider these moments in relation to the frame and to experiment with motion and duration, creating a number of short, innovative animated works in a diverse range of animation processes.
Through workshops and projects, you will acquire experience in traditional and contemporary animation technologies and processes, in both digital and analogue spaces. The course is structured to present a wide range of animation concepts and methodologies, ensuring their accessibility and relevance to your creative practice.
You will be encouraged to think critically and experiment, pushing the boundaries of animation technology. In addition to developing proficiency in various animation processes, you will critically engage with the rich history of Experimental Animation as a temporal creative practice, considering its place within contemporary art making and the broader cultural context.
This course introduces key RMIT capabilities and sets the foundation for a continuum of professional skills for the creative industries.
