From smartphone films to gallery installations, video is an integral to how artists and photographers tell stories. Learn how to make your mark in this dynamic medium. 

Video and sound are powerful tools in contemporary creative practice, with many drawing on techniques found in cinema and experimental film. In this course you will develop essential skills in video and sound production, experimenting with scriptwriting, camera work, lighting, and sound design.  Additionally, you will work with editing and capture software platforms, learning to construct narrative in both fiction and nonfiction sequences. The course will give you a foundational understanding of relevant skills and languages that will empower you to integrate video and sound in your own creative practice. 

Working both independently and in production teams, you will experience different crew roles and build practical knowledge of professional video workflows. 

Alongside building a technical capacity, you will critically engage with the works of filmmakers and artists working in the field of, situating your practice  within a wider community of video and sound practice. This contextual grounding will help you articulate your creative vision and position your work within a broader discourse. 

This course introduces key RMIT capabilities and sets the foundation for a continuum of professional skills for the creative industries.
