In this course you will explore and play with the possibilities of optics, lighting and projection, experimenting with old and new projection technologies such as the Camera Obscura, Camera Lucida, overhead projection, contemporary digital projection and film/video lighting kits both as a developmental tool for making art and a mode of display.

Through a series of collaborative and individual workshops and exercises you will be encouraged to propose and create situations and performances that explore the phenomenon of light and consider it in relation to presentation and audience engagement.

This course emphasises a combination of technical skills and creative experimentation, encouraging you to push the boundaries of the technologies. Throughout, you will discuss and reflect on the work of your peers and of leading artists in this field, considering its use in contemporary art and culture.

This course introduces key RMIT capabilities and sets the foundation for a continuum of professional skills for the creative industries.
