In this course you will explore the way in which photography intersects with a broad range of cultural practices. You will experiment with creative approaches and techniques that will enable you to engage in social, professional & cultural fields? 

You will investigate the historical, cultural and technological contexts for photographic image making and develop your ability to communicate visually. 

Through reflective and critical analysis of your own work and the work of others, you will begin to develop individual agency as a creative practitioner within the discipline of photography.  This course aims to set an emerging appreciation of the intersection of technical, conceptual, social, ethical and professional aspects of photography practice and provide an entry point to photographic thinking. 

Course Learning Outcomes 

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:   

  1. Interrogate approaches to photography within a range of cultural, historical and theoretical contexts. 
  2. Evaluate diverse photographic images and practices with reference to form, context, meaning, ethics and politics. 
  3. Develop capacity to resolve a range of photographic outcomes by exploring and applying creative approaches. 
  4. Critically analyse, synthesise and reflect on your work and the work of others. 
  5. Explore and develop an ethical framework for your photographic practice.
