In this course you will develop knowledge and experience in specialised methods of production and craft of your studio discipline to make informed choices about the appropriate technologies for your individualised practice. You will consolidate your learning by developing self-directed studio projects to express and communicate your ideas and demonstrate advanced methods of production.

You will engage with studio technologies, practice and enquiry, and learn to use specialised techniques and processes of making art works in ways that complement and inform your studio discipline. You will also employ analytical, technical and interpretative processes to critically evaluate the use of technologies for an advanced creative practice using a range of reflective learning tools.

Please note some important details about this course:

The course is designed to enhance your existing skills in your current studio practice area. You should already possess basic proficiency in your chosen workshop, as this is not an introductory course. Studio leads may request a statement demonstrating your suitability.

You can view available Semester 1 workshops on the School of Art website. Please let me know if you identify a workshop that would help advance your current practice, and I’ll contact the studio lead to add you to the waiting list.

Important considerations:

  • As these are undergraduate workshops, undergraduate students receive priority placement
  • MFA students are accommodated if space permits
  • It’s essential to enrol in a backup option in case your preferred workshop is full (un-enrol before the census date if you get a workshop spot)
  • VART3741 Studio Skills Specialisation can only be taken once during your degree program
