Canvas Groups vs Sections – Setting it straight

Canvas is a little different from Blackboard, when it comes to managing groups of students. This is mostly due to a change in the language. It’s important to understand the right Canvas terminology:

  • Groups – primarily used for managing group assignments.
  • Sections – used to manage cohorts of students, typically based on classes, lectures, workshops or tutorial groups.
