What: RMIT has many accessible services that support students to achieve their study goals while staying happy and healthy.
Why: Your duty of care to your students extends beyond the curriculum and you should ensure that you are up-to-date with the information, resources and services available in support of other aspects of student life. By directing your students to these support services and resources when they need them you can enhance their RMIT experience and success.
How:
- Student Wellbeing – Safer Community provides support and advice to students and staff concerned about threatening or inappropriate behaviour. Mental wellbeing support and counselling is available to you and your students.
- To teach at RMIT you require a current Working with Children Check. RMIT is a child safe organisation, which means staff are responsible for ensuring that anyone who is under 18 on campus is safe, happy and protected. If you have students under 18 in your classes then you please check that you have a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) and have submitted the details to HR.
- Equity – The Equitable Learning Services (ELS) team is there to ensure that all students are included in all aspects of university life. They provide support and equal opportunities for students with a disability, long-term illness and/or mental health condition, and primary carers of individuals with a disability.
- ELP – a student’s Equitable Learning Plan (ELP) sets out their required study adjustments and assistive technology. An ELP is arranged, and managed, through to ELS team. ELPs are confidential and contents must not be shared or discussed with others without the student’s permission.
- Equality and Inclusion – RMIT University is proud to support students within our community who identify as GBTIQA+. Reflecting the diversity of our community beyond the LGBTIQA+ label, RMIT refers to people of ‘diverse genders, sexes, and sexualities’ (DGSS). RMIT’s Ally Network promotes equality and inclusion for students who identify DGSS.
