A delegation chaired by the Dean of College of Civil Aviation and Director of National Key Laboratory of Air Traffic Flow Management, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA) visited RMIT University on 15th August, 2015.
The purpose of the visit was to discuss collaboration initiatives on Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems research. SAMME tabled the following discussion points for the meeting:
- Options for a research partnership (Joint Higher Degree by Research, co-tutelle, scholarships).
- Air Traffic Management (ATM) and Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) clustering in the Asia-Pacific region.
- Potential collaborations with EU and US institutions, including Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR) and NextGen.
It was proposed that three parties (NUAA, RMIT and THALES Australia) could sign a framework agreement to build on collaboration in the following key areas:
- Education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Professional Training of university and industry staff to introduce new technology and new systems. These would be aligned with industry standards.
- International symposiums inviting key researchers to discuss ideas and to raise the profile of each institution.
- Applying for research grants in both Australia and China. The topics and issues identified in the application for the grants could be tailored to serve local issues of the source country of the grant.
