StopRotor Research

StopRotor UAS Pty Ltd developed the concept of a multi-configuration UAV capable of performing fixed wing flight and reconfigure itself to achieve vertical take-off and landing, as well as manoeuvring as a helicopter when required.

StopRotor designed and tested a first demonstrator StopRotor aircraft to provide a flying proof-of-concept and is now investing more significant efforts to further develop the design. A research collaboration agreement has been setup between StopRotor UAS Pty Ltd and RMIT University. The research is focussing on wind tunnel tests in order to establish the flight dynamics of this innovative platform design. A Defence Science Institute (DSI) grant has been recently awarded to RMIT for conducting further research activities on the StopRotor aircraft. A joint application has been also submitted for a new Defence Innovation Hub towards developing the Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) Systems for the aircraft.
