Collaboration with Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI)

Research collaborations between RMIT University and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), Daejeon, Republic of Korea were strengthened during a delegation visit from KARI to RMIT University (17-18 May, 2017) and a follow-up visit by Professor Roberto Sabatini to Daejeon (21-25 August, 2017).

The KARI delegation to RMIT included Dr Daekeun (DK) and Dr Yeonju Eun. Dr DK is currently the Head of Communication, Navigation and Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) at KARI. His research group is working on the MIDAS (Management on Integrated operations of Departure, Arrival and Surface) program and is participating to several government funded ATM research programs including UTM (UAS Traffic Management). During the visit, Dr DK also provided a research seminar on the topic “Overview of KARI CNS/ATM Research Activities”.

Following the visit from KARI, Professor Roberto Sabatini provided a week long lecture series to the researchers at KARI. Both sides have started to investigate the idea of developing projects around common research interests and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between RMIT University and KARI has been finalised to establish cooperation in the following areas:
• R&D collaboration in the area of aviation and aerospace systems (CNS/ATM, UTM, GNSS, SBAS);
• Post-Doctoral researchers mobility initiatives and HDR student internships;
• Joint research grants applications.
