Dr Karen Ann Donnachie works in the expanded fields of photography, electronic and data art, and experimental art publishing.
From 1990 through 2010 she was based in Milan, Italy where, among other activities, she founded the art periodical This is a Magazine (from 2002) and later the imprint Atomic Activity Books (from 2008) with Andy Simionato. Andy and Karen currently experiment with nonhuman and autonomous art systems and networks and make drawing, writing and reading robots.
They won the 2020 Tokyo Type Directors’ club prize, The Cornish Family Prize, and The Robert Coover Prize for their AI-driven ‘Library of Nonhuman Books’, and awarded the 2019 Tokyo Type Directors’ club prize for our writing machine – “Trumpet of the Swan.”
