The RMIT Bachelor of Education (Primary Education) offers students an education degree for primary teaching through a combination of theoretical knowledge and professional experience. It prepares our students for the dynamic and challenging world of education. It provides globally transferable skills and a qualification that can lead to practising as a teacher in Australia and overseas. Students will experience a variety of contemporary, interactive learning and teaching approaches, including both face-to-face and online delivery modes. They will have the opportunity to participate in a range of innovative Professional Experience practices within a variety of educational settings that integrate theory and practice. This program is primarily delivered in blended mode (online and face-to-face) at the Bundoora Campus.
Students will undertake a series of work integrated learning (WIL) experiences in schools and other educational settings throughout the program. During these experiences students will progressively demonstrate achievement of each descriptor of the AITSL Standards for Graduating Teachers. They will also undertake a capstone experience in the final year that comprises a final teaching placement and an independent action research project into an aspect of their teaching practice. During the final teaching placement students will demonstrate effective classroom teaching practice including planning, teaching, assessing and reflecting. They will conduct an action research project into an aspect of teaching practice during the final teaching placement and report on the impact the development of practice has on student learning.
Successful completion of the final teaching performance assessment and a record of successful performance against all AITSL Graduate Teacher Standards are requirements for graduation.
