Since 1998 RMIT’s School of Art has partnered with the Hong Kong Art Centre and its education division, the Hong Kong Art School, to deliver RMIT programs in Hong Kong. The 2022 graduating cohort from the Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) program in Hong Kong held graduate exhibition, Inverse, in July 2022 at Pao Galleries at the Hong Kong Art Centre. The exhibition is ordinarily held in July each year so that RMIT staff can participate in the celebration while they are in Hong Kong to deliver the face-to-face Intensive Seminars that are held at the beginning of each semester, but due to travel restrictions RMIT staff had to again join the festivities online. While we have been physically apart since we last visited in January 2020, technology has kept us close together. We are excited to be resuming face-to-face delivery in January 2023. This year 38 students studying across painting, ceramics, photography and sculpture specialisations shared their work with their extended communities across Melbourne and Hong Kong and beyond in the 2022 graduate exhibition. The artworks on display were the culmination of three years of intense hard work and dedication in collaboration with RMIT and Hong Kong Art School staff, peers, family and friends who have contributed conceptually, materially and socially to these final outcomes. This range of influences has been absorbed and distilled into the poetic, experiential and thought-provoking works that make up this exhibition.
