PUNKTURED explores ways in which a contemporary jewellery practice can translate the energy of punk music culture into the 3-dimensional, focusing on ways in which music can both inform and reflect one’s identity. Jewellery has an innate connection to identity and, in a more literal sense, a connection to the body. It is Fung’s belief that while jewellery connects to the body, music connects to the soul. It is the freedom of expression of the soul which inspires one’s identity.
Jewellery’s ability to reflect one’s values, identity and interests runs parallel to that of music. This can be exhibited in punk culture through its distinct and iconic use of wearing readymade jewellery objects. It’s this intersecting relationship which will be explored through material in the 2022 series.
