WORLD BUILDING AND SPATIAL DRAWING: PLAY THE GAME, DON’T DIE

Rooted in modalities of playfulness, my current work spans object-based installation, drawing and painting. These works navigate structures and hierarchies of gender through symbols and the personification of objects. The tactility of handmade and found objects are quintessential elements of sculptural forms that bleed back into the 2D representations that emerged alongside them.

My expanded drawing practice explores mediums including oil paint, soft and found-object sculpture. Through playful acts, my personal visual language adapts cohesively to connect works across these mediums. Works are both direct and non-sensical, delving into uncanny imagined spaces and fantastical worlds. Creating a sense of place and narrative contributes to a navigation of both real and fabricated landscapes—a stage-like performance of objects that transcend traditional framing methods. Experimenting with structures of confinement, increasingly repellent and important boundaries come to the figurative form. What happens to the artwork once its boundaries disappear? Is it confined or is it set free?
