UNSTILL
My work engages with ideas relating to inspiration and influence. Our perspective on everything doesn’t come naturally, we learn how and what we see. Unstill is a series of non-narrative, still life oil paintings, made using multiple layers where I explore finding the middle ground between abstraction and realism as well as traditional and contemporary art. My work is a combination of multiple themes, such as realism, abstraction, cubism, geometry, modernism and still life. These works move between the modern and the traditional while being compositionally confusing. In creating Unstill, I had a particular focus on making work that is aesthetically and visually appealing, thinking about how I can incorporate the influence western culture has on my practice as well as the influence of my South Asian upbringing.
