POINT OF VIEW
(musing from previous years of art school)
I can see the internet as a machine that has already swallowed us all whole. The internet then spews over itself, reformulating its own contents to produce more—feeding itself on its own nausea. I want to divorce myself from patriarchal norms and the migraines of digital culture—yet I acknowledge that this is not possible without confronting, and disturbing, the foundations on which our society rests. And thus, my art practice aims to dig deeper into these unescapable foundations and analyse them critically.
Again, I disconnect—I feel time renders my art to appear naïve or perhaps recognises it as simply a commentary of my dissatisfactions. I want to detach completely and surrender to a new form of naïvety—to the side of nature that is organic and free. In music, in art, and in love—emancipated. Oh, and four years of art school, where am I now? No apparent clarity despite the desire to let go of previous fixations. Some crazy whirlwind and a curious path to have gone down. To laugh is a coping mechanism yet a basic human right—to have fun and to be silly, a political act. This is what I will latch on to! In the certainty of death, I may as well make fun art—do what feels good. Perhaps to the theme of a poppy dance song?
