EXPLORING COLLECTIVE CONSCIOUSNESS THROUGH MOVING IMAGE AND MUSIC PROJECTS SITUATED IN PUBLIC SPACE
In my Master’s research, I have been using the moving image and music to explore collective consciousness, dreams, and time. In my moving image projects, I tell stories that are humorous, surreal, and contemplative. I use unsettling video editing techniques to create non-linear worlds that suggest poetic shifts in consciousness. In my music practice, I write songs that tell stories in a similarly humorous and theatrical way. In many of my projects, I combine my music practice with my moving image practice to create layered expressions of my exploration into the collective consciousness.
I position my work in public space to encourage the broadest possible audience to consider and contemplate existential ideas about collective consciousness and shared experience. I am also interested in creating an accessible atmosphere that differs significantly from the gallery setting. My practice is at once playful, thoughtful, and theatrical.
