ARTIFACT 7 explores the lines between documentation and artwork through the installation of unorthodox print, video, and painting.
I paint on hard surfaces over long durations, and then pour PVA adhesive over it and peel it back as a pseudo monoprint. These prints are accompanied by a recording of their process, from beginning to end. These two aspects of the project are separate, each exploring memory, time and experience. They do this through the physical layering evident in the print and the experimentally durational aspect of the film.
By installing the two aspects together they continue to tackle the notions of time and experience, but due to the nature of the film being a recording of the process of the physical print, the question of the hierarchy of importance of both is challenged.
In this project, I bring these parts together to create an installation that can simultaneously answer the question of the distinction between documentation and art while maintaining the notions of time, duration, and process.
