KNOCK ON VOID employs a multidisciplinary approach, utilising culturally specific objects to manifest the concept of emptiness within Taoism. By creating a series of discrete objects within the context of traditional Go game, scroll paintings, and bamboo slips, the project aims to explore the notions of absurdity and meaninglessness in the context of Taoism’s emptiness.
I was born in Changsha, Hunan, China, and from a young age, I was immersed in themes associated with Taoism, spirituality, and Buddhism. My primary focus has always been to use art as a means to explore the question of ‘who am I?’ and how humans perceive themselves in the world. Emptiness, a philosophical concept often mentioned in Taoism and Buddhism, becomes the main concept that I experience throughout this journey.
