DUBBININ is an abstract video work that explores the cyclical, interdependent relationship that video has to sound. The piece employs abstraction and psychedelic imagery to capture the spirit of the similarly spacey soundtrack. This inseparable combination culminates in unfamiliar, interplanetary atmosphere. The work is presented as a single-channel projection, which enlarges the antiquated, dusty visuals. The procedure of translating sound to imagery, or vice versa, tends to lead to artwork that is distinctly idiosyncratic, and is always greater than the sum of its parts. The goal of this piece was to adapt the murky, far-out character of Dub music to an abstract video work. There was a real emphasis on creating a piece that was slower-paced than my previous work – I wanted to present something with a deeper ambience.
