A MOMENT IN NATURE reflects upon the Arts and Crafts movement of late nineteenth century in its response to the industrial revolution. Combining textile art with natural dye and eco print, this piece emphasises the qualities of nature and handcraft to produce a unique artwork. The invention of synthetic dyes and machine manufacturing saw a decline of natural dying and handcraft in the textile industry. Convenience and efficiency to produce products at a mass rate took precedence over sustainability and authenticity. With this artwork I hope to create an appreciation for the versatility of nature and the individuality in which natural dye can produce. The intimacy and tactility of textile art forms a meaningful connection between artist and their work. My project aims to blur the lines between traditional craft and fine art.
