TO THE SKY WITH HOPES AND DREAMS: IMAGES OF RETRACING THE PAST PRINTED ON CERAMICS
In this project, I use different art techniques like printmaking, collage, pottery, and ceramics to explore my personal experiences and connect them with broader societal themes. I focus on autoethnography, archives, memory, and migrations. By using pottery with printed images, I reference ancient pottery from Iran, my home country. This project acknowledges the complexity of the lives of migrants and reflects on the uncertainties and tensions they face. I experiment with various pottery forms and incorporate printmaking techniques on ceramic surfaces to explore the idea of belonging. I study archives to understand the imagery and forms of domestic ceramic objects in the Middle East, particularly in Iran.
Moving to Australia has greatly influenced my artistic journey and has had a profound impact on me. This experience has inspired me to explore autoethnography in-depth and find different approaches to contribute to a more equitable and connected world. My goal is to create art that brings people together, promotes understanding, and fosters unity among individuals from diverse backgrounds. Through storytelling and self-reflection, I hope to inspire positive change and encourage others to embrace their own unique stories, celebrating the diversity of our shared humanity.
