UNFILTERED: EXPLORING MY PSYCHE THROUGH THE ACT OF PAINTING.

My Master’s project embraces an explorative painting process tethered to memory and imagination. I unleash embodied raw expression to manifest large symbolic compositions of self, enabling me the agency to reconstruct an authentic identity. Each work begins with vague notions that develop intuitively as the painting progresses. Paint is applied viscerally to capture complex, intense feelings. Wilfully embracing uncertainty, I follow lines of flight, the outcome emerging from the process. Unfiltered, the work becomes my voice.

I have been ‘practicing’ painting for over twenty years. I currently live in Melbourne with some of my adult kids. My intuitive painting style conveys intense emotional states through colour and gestural marks, often involving my whole body in a very messy process. I seek to utilise the materiality of the paint to express psychological states. My underlying concern is to dig beneath the facade of what it means to be human.
