I Know You of Old: The Transmutation of Metal, Matter and Meaning.
My practice-led research uses historical and contemporary metalsmithing techniques to find new and experimental methods to transmute copper and silver alloys into contemporary relics. The resulting relics, through texture and patinas, highlight the materials’ qualities, heightening the ethereal qualities of metal, which is traditionally considered enduring. My research is methodologically iterative, with each iteration informed by the previous interactions, failures, and achievements. The form of the relics, which reference the history of objects, reveal this iterative methodology as they appear as echoes of the past with rich shared and individual associations.
