HYPHENATED SPACE.

As a print-maker and mixed-media artist, my work navigates the evolving relationship between heritage and modernity, shaped by my experience of living across cultural boundaries. With a focus on themes of identity, diaspora, and the sense of being ‘in-between’, I aim to capture the complexities of belonging and the layered realities of a multicultural experience. My practice reflects this journey, blending the tactile nature of traditional printmaking with the fluid possibilities of digital techniques, creating a space where past and present intersect.

In my current work, I have integrated digitised images of flowers—symbols of cultural resonance—into contemporary textures and abstract forms. By merging these familiar symbols with contemporary expressions, I invite viewers to engage with both the connections and disconnections that shape us. My interest in representing digital decay as a mirror to natural decay has inspired a project that explores how both ideas signify the gradual fading of cultural ties and heritage over time, while also highlighting the efforts to mend this connection through research and teaching, ensuring that it can be shared with future generations.

Each layer of my work is designed to foster reflection, urging viewers to think about their own relationships with culture, place, nature, and belonging, and to consider how these ties shape their sense of self. Through these explorations, I hope to create art that resonates on both personal and collective levels, encouraging a dialogue on what it means to exist within—and between—cultures.
