Lachlan Vasic is a Naarm/Melbourne-based artist, forming sculptures and objects through his practice of gold and silversmithing. He is inspired by day-to-day urban landscapes and subtle details, from warm ‘50s architecture to ‘90s brutalist sculpture. As he further develops his practice, he continues to explore themes of memory and childhood nostalgia through making hollow vessels, light shades and contemporary jewellery.
LEAVE THE LIGHT ON
Throughout the final year studying the Bachelor of Fine Art, I have created a collection of vessels and light shades exploring the use of hollow forms and their involvement with space and light around them. I position myself as an observer, examining the balance between positive and negative space and how artworks connect themselves to the audience and environment around them. Through constructing gradual forms and effortless contours, I have created metal vessels in a simple, bold style. I draw focus not just on my artworks but also the space and viewer, creating a holistic experience. I encourage viewers to investigate my vessels from all angles and distances to foster their own playful discovery.
