At last, You Become Me. At last, I Become You (2024)
Through this project, I aim to visually reflect the process of exploring personal uniqueness while encompassing both tradition and modernity. Minhwa, as an artistic genre with a long history in South Korea, deeply embodies the nation’s emotions and culture. I sought to utilise this form of Minhwa to express the identity confusion and diverse cultural interactions that individuals face in contemporary society. Ultimately, the work draws from various racial, historical, and cultural experiences, transcending mere visual expression to convey deeper meanings through elements of Korea’s aesthetic Confucian thought. By reinterpreting traditional Minhwa through my unique lens, I hope to provide viewers with an opportunity to reflect on the authenticity that resides deeply within their hearts.
The core of my project lies in the dialogue between tradition and modernity, as well as the interactions between the individual and the collective. Ultimately, I aspire for the audience to re-examine themselves and their culture, gaining a broader understanding of diverse experiences.
