DEMETER’S LAMENT is a sculptural composition of entwined material energy from deep ecological time reconstructed into an offering for the post-industrial age, where Ontology and the Anthropocene intertwine in an alchemical expression of materiality.
Drawing from Greek mythology, the symbol of the cornucopia evokes endless bounty and celebrates yield from the earth. I consciously make use of recycled materials; various poly-plastics and rubber, bound and woven, to engage with ideas of matter and energy, composition and destruction.
I am interested in how material within an object reveals its own vitality. This work premises a paradox in the form of fossil fuel by-products recycled from the beginning of time, potentially reaching its end-time and continues my my exploration of metamorphosis and temporality in relation to the Anthropocene and Post-Humanism.
Based in Naarm/Melbourne, Australia, I lean toward the dystopian and work with an existential perspective, from within a wormhole. My work engages with philosophical questions about time-space, existence and finitude. My practice is predominantly sculptural installation, combining the natural, the handmade and industrial.
