I am a Romanian Mix Media Artist, I have been practicing art for nearly 7 years, and I specialise in Printmaking (specifically Aquatint and Mezzotint).
My inspiration comes from my experience as a Romanian living in Australia, from my travels to other foreign country like Vietnam and my cultural traditions/ literature (as you will see in short notice).
If you like what you see and would like to contact me, my Instagram is @isabellmbilous22.
Isabell Maria Bilous, ‘Not titled I’, 2024 cyanotype, aquatint and sewing, 30x 8cm. These next 4 works are a mixture of physically practicing traditional Romanian sewing, replicating it as a cyanotype and intermixing it with Vietnamese History on raw canvas material (as influence from my trip to Vietnam).

Isabell Maria Bilous, Orthodox Romanian Values I, 2025, aquatint, 25x40cm. What does it mean to be enlightened in a religious and political sense? Within a Orthodox religious perspective enlightenment is to believe in the religion and God and to become a better person. Being able to see your flaws and to work on it is the type of enlightenment Orthodoxy seeks. However, in a political sense, enlightenment is hard to have due to the misinformation that has spreaded, dividing nations and generations. It would mean to rely on our common sense and do our own research, wouldn’t it?
Isabell Maria Bilous, Orthodox Romanian Values II, 2025, aquatint, 25x40cm. A religious driven print, desperation and hope. This print is a cry for help toward the higher being known as God. Creating a physical representation of how it feels to have a God that listens to your worries, prayers. Knowing that everything will be okay.
Isabell Maria Bilous, Orthodox Romanian Values III, 2025, aquatint, 25×40 cm. A concept and reality, a value that is a pinnacle to the Orthodox tradition and can be related on a general basis. This aquatint work outlines the concept of community and unity among each other. This is less of a political comment but more one the notation on to be better and to help one another.
Isabell Maria Bilous, Orthodox Romanian Values IV, 2025, aquatint, 25x40cm. The expansion on how freedom is represented in Orthodoxy and the present political state within Romania. Are we as free as we think? This aquatint print outlines the symbolism of the dove within the Orthodox religion and traditional Icon paintings. While simultaneously, noting the subjugation of the Romanian population under corrupt leadership (within and after the communist era).
Isabell Maria Bilous, Not Titled, 2025, state proof, mezzotint, 14.5 x 10cm. This Mezzotint print encapsulates the poem Oh How Fragile by the writer that advanced the Romanian language to what it is known today, Mihai Eminescu. I used traditionally significant motifs from Romanian Culture like the Red Peony that is only found in south-eastern Europe and our traditional leather footwear called Opinci.
Isabell Maria Bilous, Not titled, 2025, 38 x 28cm. This is a combination of Mezzotint and Dry Printing 10×14.5cm. Within this work I try to symbolise the unity of Romania from different regions. These are traditional Romanian sowing patterns from the area Apuseni (Transylvania) and I try to outline that no matter from what area in Romanian you are from, it will always be under one roof, the Romanian Roof.
Isabell Maria Bilous, Not titled, 2025, drypoint, 5.5×5.5cm. This Dry point shows the viewer, what traditional Romanian housing looked like and still looks like in the countryside.
