This work explores the artist’s personal experience of growing up with mental health struggles, mental illness and mental disability. This work aims to communicate to people that they are not alone in their experiences and to put forward the idea that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
About the Artist
Jay Nelson is a mixed media artist who explores a wide variety of themes by telling stories through paintings and comics. They make art with the intention to connect with others who have or had the same struggles they have. They use a wide variety of symbolism in their work. They primarily use flowers and plants to communicate meaning, but they have begun to use other iconography, such as water, the ocean, and weather.
