The Story Behind MOXIE

MOXIE is a series of ever evolving characters I created in inspiration of Gen-Z nonconformity and the “moxie” that we all have as a generation that is determined for change. Growing up in spaces that celebrated sameness, I felt the weight of conformity dragging me down. Out of that pressure, MOXIE emerged like a diamond: a genderless, unapologetic character that carries the rebellious yet revolutionary culture of Gen Z.

As a transmedia art brand and visual world, MOXIE explores the intersection of art, branding, identity, and cultural resistance; asking how avatars and designed objects can function as both intimate vessels of selfhood and collective political voice.

MOXIE  operates across multiple forms: wearable art, co-existing artworks, and community-based events. Informed by both my own material explorations and a ‘business skills in creative industries’ elective, MOXIE  is filling a gap in the Australian art market, being an avatar-based brand  that is both aesthetic and rich in the ethos of inclusivity, sustainability, and activist values.

Symbolism within MOXIE

✦ Star Eyes

The star eyes as seen on every MOXIE represent the vision of a better world. Stars are guiding lights; they illuminate paths in darkness, stand for hope, and symbolise something extraordinary. They’re a symbol of not just looking at the world, but envisioning a new one.

Ϟ Double Horns

The double horns on every MOXIE are a symbol of head-strong determination. Horns historically carry connotations of strength and wildness; from mythological creatures like satyrs and demons, to fashion and subcultures that reclaim “the horned figure” as an emblem of defiance.

Artistic Forms

Working on the basis of the embodiment and coexistence of MOXIE through multiple art forms, i have a focus on 3D printing and digital rendering, hand sculpting and casting, oil painting and airbrushing, sewing and jewellery making and interior design when it comes to the portrayal of MOXIE as both a brand and artwork.
