ABSOLUTE CARE  specimens of attention

TITAN, 2025
A5 sketchbook paper, graphite, coloured pencil, digitally scanned

‘Absolute Care (specimens of attention)’,  is realised through a series of A5 sized drawings. The works meditate on the inability to truly feel constant within contemporaneity. Exemplified through the subject matter of unconscious, transitory moments – the works’ stylistic sensibilities magnify those ‘gutter’ moments that typically remain forgotten and obscured. Every portrayed pose, act, nuance was synthesised lovingly – representing drawing as an unconditional act of care and meditation.

Will Wright’s illustrations portray the fracture and decay of contemporaneity – fraught by rapidly dualating conscious and unconscious experiences. Through means of a heavily stylised visual language, Wright dramatically bends form through the prioritisation of line and depth – allowing the subject its own emotional agency – creating works that are as detailed as they are ‘felt’. Wright demonstrates this through mediums consisting of charcoal and sound but is predominantly working with graphite, enacting these deeply human works through its lighter, smudged quality. Currently working out of Melbourne, VIC, Wright continues to develop a body of work that is as meditative as it is exacting, inviting viewers into the nuanced intersections of observation, memory, and quiet narrative.
