Ulises Resendiz

Bio Statement

Ulises Resendiz is a Mexican-born, St Kilda–based symbolist-surreal artist whose work explores the tension between beauty and contradiction. As an LGBTQIA+ creator, Ulises uses vibrant colours and bold imagery to express layered emotional and cultural experiences. His art blends joy and melancholy, reality and imagination, bringing together impossible worlds where animals, plants, heritage, and Australian influences coexist. Through this unique visual language, Ulises celebrates identity, transformation, and the poetic strangeness of everyday life.

Abstract

‘Artists in action’ Art Market

This project aims to create meaningful job opportunities for visual and performing artists by hosting interactive art events in public spaces. Artists will be invited to create artworks live, showcase their creative process, and sell both existing and newly made pieces directly to the public. These events foster community engagement, provide visibility for emerging and established creatives, and encourage networking within the arts sector. Set in culturally rich and historically significant venues such as Melbourne’s Abbotsford Convent, the project offers a vibrant, supportive, and inspiring environment where artmaking becomes both a form of employment and public interaction. By connecting artists with audiences in real time, the initiative seeks to strengthen the local arts ecosystem and highlight the value of creativity as a sustainable professional pathway.
