Uvini Ashcharya Yahampath

Bio Statement:

Uvini Ashcharya Yahampath is a Master of Arts (Arts Management) student at RMIT University, with a background in fashion and textile design from Sri Lanka. Her practice explores the intersection of fashion, abstract expression, and mental health, using creative processes as a form of emotional release and community healing.

Abstract:

Wearing Emotions: Abstract Expression in Fashion as a Force for Mental Health

Her current project, Wearing Emotions, invites audiences to engage in mental wellbeing through wearable art. Developed in collaboration with a fellow Arts Management student as part of the Trash Project, it reimagines discarded and recycled materials into garments that tell emotional stories. Rooted in sustainable design and social care, the project creates space for people to feel seen, understood, and worthy, making mental health visible, wearable, and shared. Uvini also showcases her work through online platforms to emotionally connect with others, offering a safe space that encourages people to express themselves and create art in their own time and environment.

“May all who carry silent pain find deep relief and the comfort they deserve!”
