I make art to better understand myself and my place in the world. Belonging in the expanded field of ceramics, my practice aims to push material and process boundaries through material agency and experimentation. My current body of work uses primarily porcelain and glaze materials along with mixed media elements to explore themes of transformation and duality, particularly the tension between control and release embracing unpredictable outcomes.

Each form begins with a simple, tactile interaction between body and clay which, performed repeatedly, turns the act of creation into a rigorous, almost athletic pursuit. Central to my practice is the value of time and labor. I meticulously construct labor-intensive forms, often in multiples or component parts, and allow the material’s unpredictability to shape the final outcome during firing. My completed works become a dialogue between meticulous labor, repetition and control; balanced with the spontaneity and volatility of ceramic processes. The tension in the final work emerges not only from my efforts, but from the unpredictable transformations that occur during firing, where the material takes over and reshapes the outcome beyond my control.
The time invested in making becomes an aesthetic in itself, emphasising the physical proximity between body and art, as well as the intimacy, endurance and dedication involved.
My intimate connection with materials and processes allows me to feel grounded within myself. Thereby, the act of creation becomes a way for me to process and comprehend the human experience.
