I lift my heart with my hands into the night sky,

Hanging it on the crescent moon.

The heart feels soft and fluffy, almost weightless.

Looking down,

I see the body crawling on the ground, limping.

The last time I saw her, she was still racing wildly on all fours.

“But it was supposed to be, should have been,” the mouth mutters,

While stitching her scalp onto the stones in the stream.

Hair drifts like seaweed in the rushing river.

“I still sacrificed,” the mouth says,

Over and over, nonstop.

Until the night of October 10th,

The scent of the wind changed.

A sweet fragrance of plants filled the air—

Spring had arrived.

The mouth repeated the words once more, then finally fell silent.

The eyes and I, at last, closed in relief, sinking into a sweet dream.

Written on October 13th, in the early morning

I am Wang Zi Yu, an interdisciplinary artist born in Xi’an, China, working across drawing, painting, and textile installation. My practice is deeply introspective, reflecting my silent observation of people and the world around me, as well as my unspoken imagination and personal beliefs.

Fascinated by diverse materials, I am driven by a desire to translate intangible emotions, internal conflicts, and dreams into material form. My work articulates the subtleties of personal experience and perception, embodying the tension between fragility and strength. Through these explorations, I aim to access raw emotional depth, suggesting a dream-like state where vulnerability and resilience coexist.

“Most nights, I neither kill nor was killed.

I was painting and writing poetry.”
