UNTITLED/UNRAVELLING

Untitled/Unravelling uses a collection of jewellery objects to reflect and highlight the malleability of the human body, exploring ways the body moves and interacts with its surroundings. My practice focuses on exploring the intimate relationships developed between the wearer and their jewellery piece. The pieces are designed to be adaptable and dynamic, encouraging the wearer to make conscious movements with their body to then observe how the jewellery moves. In turn, the wearer begins to study what not only spreads across their skin, but what lies beneath, causing their body to shift and change.

Recently, I have been drawn to the flow and movement of water to inspire my practice and shape my work. The water’s inherent fluidity and versatility reflect similar qualities in our fleshy human bodies. The pieces within this collection are intended to be adaptable, using different chains and links to induce a delicate fluidity similar to water, contrasting the typically solid nature of metal. These elements are also intended to lengthen and extend the boundaries of the body, placing the wearer in a state of flux. As the pieces are worn, the exploratory intention of the jewellery is unravelled while the wearer continues to regard the intimate play between the jewellery and their body. It becomes uncertain of where the flesh starts and ends, flowing on the edge of the body’s present state, and a curious new space.
