No Love Labours
An exploration of familial tension and the burden of care through the use of drawing and writing.
This project reflects the period of coming-of-age that results in the detachment from family, and expresses the weighted suppression of silence and betrayal. The letters and drawings are a rumination on what it means to endure. Labour is a symptom of love as the action of writing and erasure becomes a continual, relentless process of psychological endurance. I respond to the dysfunction of chaos by seeking linguistic repetition, and comfort within the psychological impermanence of marking and erasing charcoal materials. What remains, is what is left unsaid – it is a letter of love, hope, sacrifice and gratitude.
