Maryam Attar Bashi is an Iranian-born visual artist based in Melbourne, Australia, focusing on immersive installation art. She holds a Bachelor of Visual Communication Design from Deakin University and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from RMIT University. Her work explores the experiences of Iran’s "Burnt Generation" through a feminist lens, examining the personal and collective impact of living under a repressive regime. A key element of Maryam’s installations is the symbolic use of materials like eucalyptus oil, representing the complexities of diaspora and healing. The eucalyptus, found in both Iran and Australia, serves as a metaphor for resilience, symbolizing how roots endure despite physical distance. In her practice, Maryam transforms everyday objects into powerful symbols of resistance and empowerment, challenging traditional narratives and illuminating the intricate experiences of displacement, protest, and identity.
