URBAN TIME
I have always been influenced by the world of both photography and advertising. Having completed two years of this course online during a global pandemic, I was intrigued by how companies were adapting to the new climate and how they were using Covid as a selling point. I was also leaning towards this path as I always want to work with people/clients to create work.
My final project is looking at high-end watches, drawing on all the influences, perspectives, angles, styles, and aesthetics of a conventional watch ad to create a unique perspective and outlook of major luxury brands and advertising. I have photographed watches that are cheaply made, basic and inexpensive and have photographed them in the same way a luxury brand would showcase a watch. Without the name’s sake, we would see that they are almost identical in their styling and intricacy, which begs the question: Are people paying for pristine, high quality and durable watches, or are they buying the same watch with a name slapped on it for a higher markup?
Are we all just in a rat race with no end, only consuming and lusting for the high-end rather than critiquing, thinking and understanding the world around us?
