Hugo Webster is an emerging multidisciplinary artist working primarily in photography, video, sound and installation. He currently maintains his practice in Naarm/Melbourne, the unceded land of the Boon Wurrung and Woi Wurrung language groups of the Eastern Kulin Nations. Hugo’s works explore moments of contemplation and tranquillity within the human relationship to natural ecologies, engaging phenomena of experience through methods of light abstraction and immersion.

He continues to develop long-term works alongside active research and digital and physical experimentation.

Hugo’s honours project explores the themes above, projecting landscape imagery through panels of translucent paper and presenting them alongside sound art drawn from field recordings, to create an immersive installation. The installation is viewed as facilitatory, providing a space through which one might experience moments of immersive connection. Viewing light as a method by which to separate the physical and phenomenological aspects of landscape, Hugo hopes to provoke the viewer to encounter the experience of the piece, ultimately dismissing the importance of the physical components in the work.
