YOUR BODY IS NOTHING is an exploration of the abject female body. It is a personal project that began as a way to process my own bodily trauma. I wanted my work to focus on the experience of living in a female body, what that feels like and looks like to me. Through abstracted internal matter, I make visceral sculptures and embroidered textile works depicting veins, intestines and blood cells. The act of sewing, stitching, and piercing the surface can be seen as a violent act. However, it also speaks to the notion of healing and repairing the damage (wound). My work is driven by process and repetition. Through wrapping, binding, stitching and cutting, I am making art, and working through my trauma in a cathartic way.
