IF MOTHER. It’s a challenge of shifting identities, investigating the bonds of kinship through objects and people, primarily through personal emotional insights. As the year 2023 approaches, at the age of 21, I am coming to understand my mother. I try to respond to my mother’s emotions towards me by playing the role of a mother. This is an ongoing project. In playing as a mother, I’m simultaneously trying to capture little childhood memories with my mother. What makes a good mother? What makes a bad mother? There is no clear definition. At the same time, the project expresses the documentation and reinvention of photographic and emotional memory. I can’t deny that my mother has flaws, and I can’t deny that she is a good mother – a perfect mother for me.
