Hao Zhang (2001) was born in China and currently lives in Australia.

This is a journey, an Australia seen through the eyes of an outsider. There’s a lot of stories here. The strong theme is loss, but there are colorful emotions and also grey silence. Living in an uncertain landscape, but living with certain people. Just like negatives are accompanied by positives, positives are also inseparable from negatives. Some pale stories are stitched with colorful emotions, depicting a period of time that has passed.

These digital and film photos were taken in Melbourne in September 2024. Hao Zhang is about to end his student career and say goodbye to most of the people and things he has been with in Melbourne for three or four years. He looks at and processes these photos with an nostalgic perspective, stitching these fragments of memory into the river of time.

This is more like a poetic prose creation than just a record. He realised that his lifestyle was changing dramatically and his future was still unclear. He wanted to escape and create an imaginary wall composed of his rich emotions and subjective memories.

This series of photos uses more than fifteen film lenses produced in the last century, both digital and film photos. The color grading of these films is mostly based directly on the unreversed negatives, so the color can be different and creative, and remake to slides film, then projected using a slide projector.
